Hi all!
I really want the old facebook back! It makes stuff so confusing I already can't stand it!! The news feed is so out of order and I know I miss a lot of my friends postings. I really do not like it! So, who else can't stand it? Better yet, what are some ways you have found to help you navigate the new outlook?
Count me in as a new facebook layout hater.
Regarding tips and vtricks for navagating it?
I've no idea.
I just use TheFriendMail to check updates and such now.
Hope that helps?
Rule of thumb regarding FaceBook? once you know how/where to do stuff it ***will*** change right away!
Even though this is a completely free service and we should all be happy it's even remotely accessible.....yes, I really don't like it. I use mobile facebook more than its regular counter-part (except for posting links/videos) and even that is all messed up now. I don't even understand the concept of "top news" but it's being thrust in my face. I care about recent updates, but I ahve to fish for them now. BALLS!
works for me.
new or old layout- i really don't mind
I can't stand it, either, but, instead of complaining elsewhere, I recommend sharing our thoughts with facebook.
I heard about facebook on TV, and when Mark Zuckerberg was all through talking about how wonderful it was, I wondered when he described what sounded like a bunch of graphics what blind folks were supposed to do with that mess. I don't use facebook but always said with the number of folks who do use it who are blind, Mark needs to hear from you. Somebody told me though that with all the red tape, Mark may not even find out about folks having trouble with facebook.
I just hate facebook. Period. lol
The 'Top Stores' doesn't make any sense. If your reader has the ability to move by landmarks try going to the first Main landmark instead. That only works on the main site, though.
And, the new change adversely affects the iPhone app as well. Everyone on Facebook is writing complaints about it: old, young, and in between. The people that are most used to these things are the people that spend the most time on there. If you're like many, and pop in to see what's up, this gets confusing for most users. Irresponsible UI management, in my opinion.
I also hate face book.
I just hope this does not screw with the android's older facebook app. I like it but man I am going to bee frustrated.
It will, because its UI most probably uses a variant of FML (Facebook Markup language) and for better or worse they work pretty hard to keep the UIs as close to the same as possible. My iPhone app immediately showed me the new update without updating the app, which to me represents the app is served its UI remotely, at least the UI for the news feed.
The difference would be if you are using a Non-Facebook Facebook app, e.g. one written by someone other than the kids tinkering around ... er, I mean the developers ... at Facebook. FacelyHD, for instance, has their own UI but requests and feeds the content.
Hate it so much, I'm in the process of learning Twitter.
Jesse, has anyone told you about Qwitter? twitter sucks, but not with qwitter.
Problem with Twitter, and it's not really a problem just a difference, is it's not really a substitute for Facebook.
Jesse is on a mac, so that Yurufoku or however it's pronounced is getting high reviews. On my iPod I use TweetList, and if I use it on the desktop it's the Q-Master's creation Qwitter.
But Twitter has no events, family networks, etc., stuff we have grown to use with Facebook. Google+ is supposed too have some of that but I don't have a lot of my friends on there yet.
I'm having problems adding people to Google+. It doesn't seem to be very screen-reader friendly.
Chelsea, I've heard of Qwitter, but have been mostly just using my iPhone to do Twitter.
I agree totally with happy heart about writing facebook..I've thought of that and once I get some time I am going to write facebook. It's getting rediculious! (Lol, not a good speller lol!)
I might do that as well. I liked just being able to see my friends' news, not people who weren't on my friends list. As for Twitter I absolutely REFUSE to get into that.
I refused as well, but times are changing! It's really not that bad, and I have mine linked to my FB, so all the updates go there as well.
Wow Jesse!
I ***never*** thought you'd get twitter.
Who knew what this crazy FB stuff could bring out of people.
Lol I just don't get twitter..Ugh..but who knows may have to switch to it however I am ***not*** looking forward to it!
As much as I hate the new Facebook it's not enough to make me consider Twitter. Now if people would stop posting these stupid status updates about hw Facebok is going to start charging and to keep your account free you should do something stupid and sent it to FB. Of course maybe I should post one of my own just for the hell of it. Say that although Facebook will start chharging as of October first you can keep your account free by sending in a video clip of yourself riding inside an abandoned tractor tire down a steep hill like in Beavis and Butthead.
Facebook is a way to track friends and family, and try and remember family member's birthdays ... but Twitter is a cool way to track news events / stuff like disasters, etc., or events from within your industry.
I as well do not like the new fb. I also don't like how it makes lists for me and puts people in it. I am like seriously? You have no clue who my close friends are haha.
Totally agree with you Anewheart! :)
I agree too. I also don't wish to access a list to see my friends, I want them right there. If they weren't my friends, why would I care. Even if what you wanted is to post a message that certain people can't see, it isn't a good enough reason to do it. Sorry, if we need to be discrete, we should use email not treat others as if they didn't mean as much to us in a particular situation as others.use email, not your wall.
Can I just say right now that there are some things that I just really really hate about fb... the main site is a total disaster for screen reader users, and they've recently changed the way things show up in the time line now even on the mobile site which is what I always use being a jaws user. I have heard from sighted persons as well that the main site has gotten to be quite crazy in the way it is to navigate visually even.
but my real main concerns are how complicated the site is always making privacy settings... oh yeah and the lack of privacy in terms of the site tracking everyone. At one point I went to create another account for a dog we'd adopted to keep in touch with its original fam. I used an email address that I'd used briefly years ago with my fb. Now the only people I friended on the dog account was its old family members. But I swear the only people that kept coming up in the suggested friends were people that were currently on my main fb friends list, or even people who were not anymore, but had been at the time I had been using the dog email address with my main account several years prior. So there is no convincing me that fb does not keep every detail of account activity. I read an article last month that a guy somehow figured out that fb was logging people's net activities somehow even after they'd logged off fb. Another article last month was about this law student somewhere in europe requesting his fb records, and he supposedly received 1200 some pages worth from a 3 year period - and supposedly according to european privacy law, at most some of that history should have only been kept a couple months. If you sign up for an account now you have to verify it using your phone number - if you don't want to do that then you have to give fb a copy of your id/driver's license to verify your identity. That just seems crazy to me. Then there's the whole thing of them using the facial recognition software... Then there is the matter of job security. I know a lot of people are aware of that issue. All of it just really makes me a bit nervous. I wonder if there will be unforseen consequences at some point. Do I sound totally crazy and paranoid? lol I do tend to overanalyze and I do like a good conspiracy theory.
I hate the new FB! I want to write to facebook, but I just don't knnow if that will make any difference. I was not awhere of the problems with account tracking either. I have twitter, and I use qwitter, which is great! Why can't we just have the old FB back?
firstly, writing to facebook will not make any difference since they have never responded to anyone who I know.
also, what is wrong with the rest of you? I keep hearing how terrible facebook is, how it is inaccessible, yet, I am not having any issues with it what so ever and I'm a jaws user. Am I missing something here?
As a tip, you have to go down the news feed so you can browse by headings and it works perfectly.
i don't mind face book.- it works just fine 4 me. yay:
I use facebook's android to change my status, post videos, after that I just use friend caster. I too never thought I would use my twitter account but at last tweetcaster is installed on my phone and I love that program. It makes twitter fun and informible.
I agree I hate the new FB layout. But ironically I always have had and still have more trouble with the mobile version of the site than I do with the main one. And nor am I a JAWS user. And if I want to use FB Chat (not a common occurrence), I just boot up the IPhone App, which I also use whenever I want to send messages. And my only real complaint about the new version of the IPhone App is the fact that you actually have to turn VO off in order to switch between Wall and Info on a friend's page. That can get annoying when someone accepts a friend request and I want to read their page.
